Pray unceasing is a quote from the New Testament. It is an interesting quote because you already do. Every thought is a prayer. Every thought asks. If you are grateful to someone, you are expressing a prayer of gratitude. If you dislike someone, you are praying against them.
You can't say to God, or Spirit -- "Well this thought counts and that one doesn't." It all counts.
How might we pray unceasing in a way that is helpful both to ourselves and to others?
First: Stay conscious of your thoughts. This doesn't mean avoid negative thoughts like the plague. Explore your negative and painful thoughts. Follow the pain inward and see what it is about. Share those thoughts with your Higher Power. Look at them together, non-judgmentally. As you share them, when you are ready, surrender them. Let them go.
Second: The two most important and effective prayers are both simple and powerful:
• Thank you
• Thy will be done
Keep these in your mind constantly and you will pray unceasingly in a powerful and effective way.
Blessings,
Bill

Giving up control
Everyone has an ego. It is the false self, your self-image. It lives in fear, reacting in a fight or flight manner throughout the day.
For most people on the planet, this is the only way to operate. How about you?
You have an Inner Voice. It is the Life that lives through you. Prayer is a way to contact your Inner Voice. Not the kind of prayer where you ask or beg for things. More the kind of prayer where you give up things. You give up fearful thoughts and egotistical have-to's. You give up trying to control life and other people. You say "Not my will, but Thy will be done." and you mean it.
This is Spiritual Intelligence. This is living in the flow.

Spiritual Intelligence, or ego intelligence?
Ego Intelligence: Life happens to me. (victim mentality)
or "I make it happen!" (I am special.)
Spiritual intelligence: Life happens through me.
I take my hand off the tiller and allow my higher power to steer.
(I am not a victim nor am I special. I am an instrument, a channel,
for the Divine to express through me.)

present moment awareness
Where is your attention? Is it on problems, conflicts, dramas?
Spiritual intelligence is having no interest in what the ego has to offer you in this moment and paying full attention to your Inner Guidance. That's where the wisdom is. That's where your purpose is laid out. How many times must your ego fail you before you understand that it cannot lead you effectively?
Infinite times it appears as I look at myself. The problem is automatic behaviors -- not being fully present in a conversation and responding in the same old patterns -- defenses, attacks, posturing, being right, playing one-up, playing teacher, fixing others, pushing a point of view.
I forget to pause, and in that pause, ask for guidance, listen, be present, and then respond. Is it really that important that others know my opinions? Is the present moment so fearful that I must employ automatic responses to get through it?
Most people are not aware that most of their responses are automatic. There are times I wish for that unconsciousness. As I watch myself respond in this way, it is painful.
The goal is to make my after the fact awareness a present moment awareness -- to pause, to ask -- to allow the greater Intelligence -- God, Spirit, Higher Self, to guide and direct.

Seek first
You are either ego driven or "Spirit" driven.
There is no in between.
"Seek first the kingdom of heaven ... and all else will be added."
We are either seeking first or worrying about the "all else" that we need.
The "all else" is important. The idea is to allow yourself to be in the flow of life;
to move forward with confidence; that if you trust; what you need will show up.
This has little to do with religion and everything to do with where you focus your attention.
In the flow, life unfolds as it will.
There are miracles every day if you let go and notice them.

Forgiveness
It's everyone's story. Someone hurts you, and you hold on to it. It may have been years ago, but it's still present and active in your mind. You can feel the anger, or the hurt, or the resentment, or the betrayal in your body. It's like an old scab and every time you pick it, it bleeds.
You think that you need to hold it because that person should pay for what they did, but if it's eating at you -- who is paying? You have incarcerated yourself with your thoughts, but the door isn't locked. There are no guards in this prison except for your own beliefs that say you must suffer because . . . why is it you are suffering? How does it serve you?
Have a good cry. Hit your pillow. Talk to a friend or a therapist. Be done with it and free yourself. Go deep within your mind and heart and ask your Inner Voice, God within you, to help you see clearly, beyond the fog and mist of a wounded ego, beyond the self-destructive need to exact revenge, beyond your emotionally suicidal urges -- to a place of understanding -- understanding that there is no law that says you should suffer -- a place called freedom where you can breathe and once again bask in the love and the joy that is yours. Heaven and hell stand before you. Forgiveness --that's Heaven! Unforgiveness -- that's hell!

LIving on faith
I have a dream. Through the course of this year the universe has obliged me the time to work on it because my business has been decreasing. This month most of it just slipped away. Projects were finished and people moved on.
So I'm writing. I could be in a panic searching for sources of income, but instead I decided to go with the flow -- to trust -- to trust my dream -- to trust my Inner Voice -- to do whatver it takes to make the dream a reality.
My book will be out by the middle of next month. It's called Adults at Work.
I envision it catching on and thousands of people buying it. It will be worth the money, although the price is low. My novel should be done by November.
I don't really know the future. I am operating on trust, on faith, doing my part, saying thank you for each client who cancels billable hours, saying thank you for the time and inspiration to write. I am driven. I am to the point where I can't not do this. Having no guaranteed security, not knowing how the bills will be paid a month from now, I feel alive. I feel confident. All is well.
